Home page vs default search engine
They're different settings. Your home page is the page that opens. Your search engine is what runs when you type in the address bar. To make Google your search engine:
| Browser | Where to change the search engine |
|---|---|
| Chrome | Settings → Search engine |
| Edge | Settings → search for search engine → Search engine used in the address bar |
| Safari | Settings → Search → Search engine |
| Firefox | Settings → Search → Default Search Engine |
A home page that does more than search
Google's home page is a search box and not much else. Since iGoogle closed, there's been no Google page that also shows your day. OnePane is a start page with a Google search box at the top and widgets underneath: weather, your Google or Outlook calendar, Outlook mail, news, to-dos and notes. Type a search and press Enter, and it opens in Google as usual.
To try it, use https://onepane.page/app/ instead of google.com in the steps above. It's free to start.
