How to set your home page in Safari on a Mac
Safari on the Mac is the friendliest browser for home pages: it's the only major browser that can open your page in every new tab without an extension. We use OnePane's address, https://onepane.page/app/, but any address works.
Set the homepage
- Open Safari. In the menu bar, choose Safari → Settings (or press ⌘ ,).
- Click the General tab.
- Paste the address in the Homepage box. Or open the page first and click Set to Current Page.
- If Safari asks whether to change your homepage, click Change Homepage.
Open it in new windows and tabs
- On the same General tab, set New windows open with to Homepage.
- Set New tabs open with to Homepage.
- Set Safari opens with to A new window if you'd rather start fresh than reopen last session's tabs.
Now every new tab (⌘ T) and window (⌘ N) opens your page.
Add a home button
- Choose View → Customize Toolbar….
- Drag the Home button (the house) into the toolbar, then click Done.
Shortcut: ⌘ Shift H goes to your homepage from any tab.
Profiles
If you use Safari profiles (for example Personal and Work), each profile has its own New windows open with and New tabs open with settings. Find them in Settings → Profiles, select the profile, and choose Homepage or a Favorites folder.
Safari on iPhone and iPad
Safari on iPhone and iPad has no homepage setting. The closest options are adding the page to your Home Screen or Favorites. Our iPhone and iPad guide shows both.
