How to set your home page in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox

Every browser lets you choose a page to open when it starts. Here's how in each one. We use OnePane's address, https://onepane.page/app/, but the steps work for any page.

Google Chrome

Click the ⋮ menu → Settings.
Choose On startup → Open a specific page or set of pages.
Click Add a new page, paste the address, and click Add.
Optional: add a home button. Go to Settings → Appearance, turn on Show home button, and enter the same address.

Safari (Mac)

Safari → Settings (or press ⌘ ,) → General.
Paste the address in Homepage.
Set New windows open with to Homepage.
Set New tabs open with to Homepage. Safari is the only major browser that lets you do this without an extension.

Microsoft Edge

Click … → Settings → Start, home, and new tabs.
Under When Edge starts, choose Open these pages → Add a new page and paste the address.
Optional: turn on the Home button on the same screen and set it to the same address.

Firefox

Click ☰ → Settings → Home.
Next to Homepage and new windows, choose Custom URLs… and paste the address.

What about the new tab page?

Chrome, Edge and Firefox don't let you pick a web page for new tabs in their own settings. You can:

Use the home button or your startup page. Press Alt + Home on Windows, or ⌘ Shift H in Chrome on a Mac, to jump there.
Pin it. Right-click the tab → Pin, and it stays open as a small tab on the left.
Bookmark it first on your bookmarks bar.
Use a new tab extension from your browser's store that opens a page you choose. Pick a well-reviewed one, since new tab extensions can see every tab you open.

On your phone

Mobile browsers don't really have home pages. On iPhone or iPad, open the page in Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen for an app-style icon, or Add to Favorites so it shows on every new tab. On Android in Chrome, tap ⋮ → Add to Home screen.

How do I make a website open when I start Chrome?

In Chrome, go to Settings → On startup → Open a specific page or set of pages → Add a new page, and paste the site's address.

Can I set my new tab page to a website in Chrome?

Not in Chrome's own settings. Use the home button or startup page instead, pin the tab, or install a new tab extension that opens a page you choose.

Which browser lets new tabs open a custom page?

Safari on the Mac. In Settings → General, set New tabs open with to Homepage.
